About

We're students running a hackathon from Oregon.

OregonHacks is online only. Opening ceremony is Aug 15 at 8:00 AM PT. Submissions close Aug 17 at 8:00 AM, PT.

  • Teams of 1 to 4
  • AI is fine, cite it
  • No cross posting to other hackathons
  • All code written during the event

Theme

Our theme is "Nature + Tech". The specific prompt will be released during the opening ceremony.

What to submit

  • GitHub repo
  • Demo video (5 min max)
  • Project link (if applicable)
  • Additional documents (Docs, PDFs, etc.)
  • Whatever helps volunteers understand your project
  • *Make sure to cover each part of the judging rubric in your video.
Why join

You get a weekend to build, with people who want to help.

No travel. No fee. Just register, show up online, and submit something by Sunday noon.

Learn

Workshops start after opening. Mentors available to meet with if you hit a wall on code or design.

Build

You have from Aug 15 at 8:00 AM to Aug 17 at 8:00 AM PT. Submit a GitHub repo and a demo video (5 min max).

Prizes

Hacking

Build your project. Ask for help on Discord. Social events scattered through the weekend.

Submissions close

Devpost entry due: GitHub repo, demo video (5 min max), project link if you have one, plus any docs.

Judging

How projects get scored

Each project is scored from 1-5 on each section of the judging rubric. Highest score wins. Tiebreakers are decided by volunteer's preference.

Impact & problem fit
25%

Does the project solve a real problem? Is the target user clear? Would it actually help someone if you kept building it?

Technical execution
25%

Does it work? Did you build real features? We want to see technical challenge, integration, or original engineering.

Usability, design & accessibility
20%

Can someone figure out how to use it? Did you think about clarity, UX, and accessibility?

Creativity & originality
15%

Is the idea interesting or novel? Does your project do something that hasn't been done before?

Presentation & demo
15%

Does your video explain the problem, what you built, and how it works? Show your project.
